In Europe detected a burst of radioactivity into the air. The exact source is unknown, available data show that it is in Eastern Europe, according to Popular Mechanics.
Increasing the level of the isotope ruthenium-106 has been observed since September 29 in such countries of Western and Central Europe, like Germany, Italy, Austria, Switzerland and France.
The Federal office for radiation protection (Germany) noted that the increase in radiation levels does not threaten human health.
Ruthenium-106 is used for radiation therapy, in particular in the treatment of tumors of the eye, the isotope is also used in fuel cells for satellites.
