Dehydration and obesity: seven incredible factors causing the accident
MOSCOW, 30 Sep — RIA Novosti, Sergey Belousov. Every driver knows that the probability of an accident increases if you drive “taking on his chest”, not enough sleep or talking on the phone while driving. But many do not realize that the negative impact on driving have dehydration, boots and even the brightness of the bulbs in the car. RIA Novosti has collected the results of research scientists and automakers, describing the effect of the most incredible factors on the risk of getting into an accident.
Drink and behind the wheel
The driver is thirsty, allow the same mistakes, how many people behind the wheel in an alcohol intoxication.
To such conclusion the British scientists at Loughborough University, who published a report on their research in the journal “Physiology and behavior” (Physiology and Behaviour).
Newsof the Woman and the car: Yes or no?Starting in 2018, women in Saudi Arabia will be allowed to get a driver’s license, and even buy cars. And here’s some more facts about girls driving
Specialists of the educational institutions suggested drivers male to two-day testing on a specially created for this simulator in the laboratory of the University. Those who have not experienced the thirst, on average, made 47 errors, but in a state of dehydration, the subjects made more than 100 hazardous maneuvers. The most frequent “punctures” were drifts, late braking and exit for line marking.
The researchers compared the behavior of dehydrated drivers with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol intoxication. However, many deliberately refuse to drink water, especially in long journeys: people don’t want the extra time to stop to urinate.
As for fitness
Almost half of Russians prefer comfortable shoes for travel by car, but there are those who are hooked up to the car in flip-flops and even barefoot. According to the results of a survey conducted by Ford in 2017, the drivers motivating their refusal by the boots and shoes so they can better feel the pedals or the feet are too tired in other shoes.
Meanwhile, studies have shown that the loose-fitting leg boots increase the total deceleration time is on average 0.13 seconds.
This means that when decelerating at speeds of 95 km/h braking distance will be lengthened by 3,5 meters. Transfer of foot from gas pedal to brake pedal in flip-flops takes about 0.04 seconds — two times slower than, for example, in a Shoe with a wedge heel. Experts also recommend that drivers should wear boots or Hiking shoes with thick soles, since they prevent to smoothly adjust the flow of gas or braking force and can cling to the adjacent pedal.
By the way, in France and Spain driving in Slippers or barefoot is strictly prohibited. The penalties for this rather big 90 and 200 euros respectively! Despite the absence of an explicit prohibition in the UK, Germany and Italy, the police can prosecute the barefoot driver charged with “lack of proper control of the vehicle”.
