The U.S. Senate approved John Huntsman Ambassador to Russia
Voting took place under the simplified procedure at the end of the meeting.
WASHINGTON, September 29. /TASS/. The U.S. Senate on Thursday approved at a meeting of the former Governor of Utah Jon Huntsman United States Ambassador to Russia.
Voting took place under the simplified procedure at the end of the meeting, as no Senator has requested a roll-call vote. Earlier, the nomination of Huntsman, the US Ambassador in the Russian Federation unanimously supported profile Senate Committee on foreign Affairs.
During held on 19 September of the hearings on his candidacy, huntsman said that the United States “no choice” but to cooperate with Russia in addressing some international issues. In addition, he indicated his desire to discuss with the Russian authorities in combating terrorism, compliance with treaties on arms control and nonproliferation of weapons of mass destruction and a political settlement of the conflict in Syria and resolving the crisis in Ukraine.
John Huntsman is 57 years old and was educated at the University of Pennsylvania and has a bachelor’s degree in international politics. The huntsman worked in the administrations of five U.S. presidents. In 1992 at the age of 32 he headed the diplomatic mission in Singapore, becoming the youngest U.S. Ambassador in over 100 years. From 2005 to 2009 was the Governor of Utah. In 2009-2011 he held the position of U.S. Ambassador to China.
