The Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko said that he sees no logic in the suggestion of the US state Department to place UN peacekeepers on the border of Russia and Ukraine.
“No logic in this sentence, I do not see” — said the head of the upper house of Parliament, reporters, reports TASS.
Valentina Matvienko has reminded that the Russian leader Vladimir Putin instructed the foreign Ministry to appeal to the UN with the request to place the peacekeeping contingent in the conflict zone in the Donbass.
Thus it was that today on the territory of DND and LNR, as well as in the area of the contact work with representatives of the OSCE, said the Senator. Matvienko added that peacekeepers are needed to ensure the safety of the OSCE mission, because the organization does not have armed protection to those employees who participate in this mission.
“Another meaning of these peacekeepers there. But if someone starts to dictate any other terms, they do not understand what is happening in the conflict zone”, — convinced the head of the upper house of Parliament.
The politician pointed out that the conflict had two sides — has Ukraine, but there is the side of Donetsk and Lugansk, who have a voice, have their views and opinions.
“And those who would like to surround residents of the breakaway republics of Donbass barbed wire and destroy just those people, I think this idea, no one will”, — concluded the speaker.
We will remind, on September 13, the head of the press service of the U.S. Department of state Heather Nauert stated that any peacekeeping forces in the Donbass must have wide powers, including that they must be placed on the Russian-Ukrainian border “to ensure peace and security throughout the occupied territory of Ukraine”.
According to Nauert, the U.S. is considering the introduction of peacekeepers in the territory, “as a potential tool for the protection of Ukrainian citizens regardless of their ethnicity and nationality”.
