MOSCOW, September 5. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin unveiled on Tuesday a new initiative that could become a turning point in the stalled Minsk process.
At a press conference on the results of the BRICS summit in China, he said that instructed to submit to the UN security Council resolution on the placement of UN forces on the demarcation line in the Donbass to ensure the security of OSCE personnel. The President stressed that the deployment of UN forces is only possible after the removal of the arms and when reaching agreement on this issue with representatives of the proclaimed republics of Donbass.
The official reaction of Kiev, despite the negative responses of a number of Ukrainian politicians, including representative in the contact group Irina Gerashchenko, was quite pragmatic. Pointing out that President Petro Poroshenko also informed came out with this initiative, the Ukrainian foreign Ministry has agreed to discuss Moscow’s proposal in the UN security Council.
To protect the OSCE mission
The placement of UN forces, said the Russian leader should be aimed primarily at ensuring the security of the members of the Special monitoring mission (SMM) of the OSCE in the Donbass in the region in the framework of the Minsk agreements.
