Space forces of Russia successfully tested a maneuvering satellite that is able to fly up to other orbiting spacecraft, to examine them and, if necessary, to intercept, told “Izvestia” in the defense Ministry.
During the tests, the satellite undocked from the earth platform “Space-2519”, launched on 23 June 2017. The apparatus, changing the orbit, returned to the platform and examined it.
The tests for the management of military satellite maneuvering tested terrestrial and orbital communications, proven methods of ballistic calculations and software. Also confirmed the ability to automatically undock the satellite from platform to remote control his flight and use of onboard equipment.
Such satellites killer, in the future, is designed not only to monitor other devices, but for their interception, will be an important element of the Russian orbital constellation, fulfilling, as the newspaper notes, moderating role in the military space race.
