The President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte said that Russia will donate the island to the Republic arms in support of the fight against Islamist militants, which could be anywhere, “regroup and attack”, Reuters reports.
According to the President, Russia will provide about 5 thousand Kalashnikovs in a deal that will be signed before the end of October. Duterte stressed that the Philippine military will no longer have to use hand weapons, which the country received from the United States.
“We will have the Kalashnikovs”, — he said during a speech to the troops.
Terms of the deal, the Philippine leader did not lead, adding that the Russian side wants to keep this gift a secret.
Reuters a high-ranking source in the military circles said that the weapons will go when the Minister of defence of Russia will participate “in a regional meeting”. He did not specify that it will be a meeting and who participates in it. According to the interlocutor, besides “Kalashnikov” Philippines receive millions of pieces of ammunition, as well as dozens of army trucks.
