Moscow hopes that Spain will manage to overcome the crisis after the referendum in Catalonia, said the President of Russia Vladimir Putin during the ceremony of presenting credentials. The event on Tuesday, October 3, was broadcast channel “Russia 24”.
“Frankly, we are very worried about Spain, but this, of course, an internal affair of the Spanish government,” — said the Russian leader. He expressed the hope that the difficult situation can be resolved.
Before the press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov has designated the position of the Kremlin about the legitimacy of the voting results of the Catalans: the referendum is an internal affair of Spain. He also refused to evaluate the actions of Spanish law enforcement agencies during the plebiscite.
A referendum on independence of Catalonia from Spain took place on 1 October, more than 90 percent of those who voted for the independence of the Autonomous community. The Central power of the Kingdom were trying to prevent its implementation. In particular, in Barcelona voted against the police used rubber bullets. In total, the clashes injured 893 referendum and 33 police officers.
The Commission considers the referendum illegal and does not recognize its results.
