WASHINGTON, September 26 — RIA Novosti. Washington will come out of political interests, taking the decision to supply weapons to Ukraine, said Tuesday the head of Department for politico-military Affairs U.S. Department of state Tina S. Kaidanow.
“We are considering various options and trying to decide what to answer political purposes most adequately. I can’t comment on because we haven’t made a final decision,” said Kaidanov at the hearings in the foreign Affairs Committee of the Senate of the U.S. Congress, responding to a question about what types of lethal weapons, the U.S. plans to supply Kiev to assist, in order not to cause irritation of Moscow, and the escalation of tensions.
According to the representative of the state Department, “discussion (of the issue of supply of lethal weapons to Ukraine — ed.) continues and no decision has yet been made definitively, we will discuss it with colleagues from the Department of defense, from the White house.”
She noted that “Ukraine is an important partner for US and we want to be sure that their defense is given due attention”. She stressed the need to implement the Minsk agreements: “We hope to see implementation of the Minsk agreements and we intend to support this process.”
As stated at the hearing, the acting assistant Secretary of defense for strategy, plans and possibilities Thomas Harvey, while the Agency “estimates” that it is necessary to Kiev and can’t provide information about the timing of the decision.
