Russian foreign Ministry: DPRK undermines efforts to ban nuclear testing
MOSCOW, 21 sen — news. North Korea’s nuclear tests undermine the efforts of countries for the early launching of the Treaty on the comprehensive nuclear test ban (CTBT), says the text of the speech of the Russian delegation at the tenth conference on facilitating the entry into force of the CTBT, which took place on Wednesday at the UN.
“The ongoing nuclear tests by North Korea, including last September, seriously undermine the efforts of our countries for the early launching of the CTBT. We strongly condemn these actions of Pyongyang” — said in a document posted on the official website of the Russian foreign Ministry.
The Russian delegation noted the need to refrain from any steps leading to further escalation of tensions in northeast Asia.
“We urge the parties to return to dialogue and negotiation is the only comprehensive solution to the problems of the Korean Peninsula, including nuclear. Russia is ready for joint efforts in this area, including through the implementation of the Russian-Chinese joint initiatives on peaceful settlement of the situation on the Korean Peninsula outlined in the joint statement of the Russian foreign Ministry and the Chinese foreign Ministry and distributed to the CTBTO preparatory Commission on 4 July”, — is spoken in the statement.
