UN, September 19. /TASS/. The threat of use of nuclear weapons, international terrorism, the proliferation of armed conflicts, climate change and the unintended consequences of scientific progress are among the most serious challenges facing humanity.
This was stated on Tuesday at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly, the Secretary General of the world organization of antónio Guterres.
“We the people” and our United Nations is faced with serious challenges, he said. “People are suffering and imbued with the anger, said Mr. Guterres, who first spoke from the rostrum of the UN General Assembly as the administrative head of the world organization. They see that the situation in the security field is getting worse, growing inequality, proliferating conflict and climate change”.

The Secretary General pointed out that currently, “the world is full of contradictions,” however, he assured that with the assistance of the UN can “restore trust and make the world a better place for all.”
Nuclear threat and terrorism
The first in the list of the most serious dangers for mankind Guterres has called the nuclear threat, which he linked to the DPRK.
As stressed by the UN Secretary General, “the use of nuclear weapons should be unthinkable.”
“Even the threat of its use cannot be justified,” — said Guterres. In this regard, he harshly condemned the missile launches and nuclear tests by Pyongyang.
“I urge the DPRK and the member States of the UN to fully implement the resolutions of the Security Council,” — said Guterres. He appealed to the security Council with a request to “keep the unity” in this matter, as “only it can allow to achieve denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula.” Guterres stressed that “violent rhetoric can lead to a fatal error.” He pointed out that to resolve the crisis is possible only through political means and warned the international community from “sliding into war”.
