The Akhmat Kadyrov Fund transferred $ 14 million for the restoration of the main mosque of the Syrian city of Aleppo, which was destroyed by terrorists in 2013. It is reported RIA Novosti with reference to the mufti of the city of Mahmud of Acema.
According to him, funds for this purpose was proposed by the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov. “This person has reached out, he decided to help us in this difficult hour. He is fighting terrorism and condemns extremism in all its forms”, — said the mufti, noting that no other funds or organizations, including UNESCO, assistance is not offered.
Akim clarified that this amount was sufficient for the restoration of the mosque, despite the willingness of Kadyrov to allocate additional funds.
The great mosque in the city of Aleppo or the Umayyad Mosque is located in the world heritage list of UNESCO. It was built in the year 715. The Shrine is considered the “pearl” among the historical monuments of the second main city of Syria. According to legend, this mosque was buried, the prophet Zakaria (Zechariah). In Islamic tradition it is believed that he was a mentor Miriam (virgin Mary) and the father of Yahya (John the Baptist).
The only minaret of the mosque was completely destroyed by militants in April 2013.
