Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev has arrived in Israel Thursday for talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Reuven Rivlin will discuss the economy, cooperation in the humanitarian sphere and international issues.
On Friday, the Russian Prime Minister will visit Palestine and will hold talks with President Mahmoud Abbas.
According to the press service of the Russian government in Israel will be discussed in detail topical issues of bilateral agenda, including ways of further strengthening trade-economic, investment, scientific-technical, innovative, and humanitarian cooperation. The sides also touched upon certain international issues of mutual interest. Following the talks, planned to sign a number of bilateral interagency documents.
Netanyahu himself has called Medvedev’s visit to Israel is evidence of the strengthening Russian-Israeli relations.
With regard to Palestine, the Cabinet noted that the trip to this country, and upcoming contacts with its leaders will “synchronize watches” on topical issues of the bilateral agenda, it is also expected that the parties will exchange opinions on the current situation in the middle East.
In turn, Abbas will discuss with Medvedev during his visit to Palestine meeting Palestinian and Israeli leaders in Moscow, reported the Palestinian Ambassador to Russia Abdul Hafiz. According to him, the Palestinian side has information about Netanyahu’s agreement in principle to hold such a meeting, “but agreement on the details of its implementation have not been achieved”.
In a recent interview, Medvedev said that Russia is ready to undertake more active efforts for the resumption of the process of settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli question, direct contacts between leaders, but not trying to replace the United States as a mediator and coordinator.
Following the talks, Medvedev and Abbas planned to sign a number of documents, including the agreement on investment, which, according to the expectations of the Palestinian side, will help to create preconditions for joint activities with Russian companies in the special economic zones of Palestine. During the visit Medvedev will visit was built with the assistance of the Russian cultural and educational facilities.
