The monument to Prince Vladimir was opened on Borovitskaya square, reports channel “Moscow 24”.
The event was attended by Vladimir Putin, Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill and Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin.
“It’s a big important event for Moscow and the whole country and all Russian compatriots. It is symbolic that it is held in the national unity Day in the capital centre — in the heart of Russia. The Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill has consecrated the monument in the old Russian tradition.
The monument to Prince Vladimir was erected on the initiative of the Russian military-historical society. Initially, the monument was planned to install on the Sparrow hills, and its height was to be 25 meters. However, because of the unreliability of the slope, next to which I wanted to put a monument it decided to transfer. The place for the monument was chosen by Muscovites, and the majority were in favour of Borovitskaya square. Final draft 40-ton statue was coordinated with UNESCO.
The height of the monument is of 17.75 meters. Pedestal — 2.75 meters, the sculpture is 12 meters. The cross in the right hand of Vladimir stands over the figure of 3 meters. The author of the project became a people’s artist of Russia Salavat Shcherbakov.
