MOSCOW, 24 Aug — RIA Novosti. The cause of the accident of Mi-8 helicopter with 19 killed, which took place on 21 October 2016 in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous district, was the loss by crew of spatial orientation during a forced landing, according to the conclusion of the Commission of the Interstate aviation Committee (IAC) completed the investigation of the accident.

Helicopter Mi-8 of airline “Skol” fell in Purovsky district near the village of Urengoy. On Board were three crew members and 19 passengers. As a result of emergency the entire crew and 16 passengers died.

“The reason of accident of helicopter Mi-8T RA-22869 was the loss by crew of spatial orientation when trying to complete a forced landing in night conditions with overcast light and lack of landmarks at the landing site. The need to perform a forced landing was caused by low fuel”, — the report says.

It is noted that an accident contributed to by other factors, including shortcomings in the interaction of crew members and acceptance by the commander of the vessel unjustified decision to crash when the available information about meteorological conditions in the vicinity of the refueling point.
