Cinema in the US refused to show “Gone with the wind” because of the scandal of racism

The Orpheum theater in Memphis refused to show the film “gone with the wind” because of the scandal of racism, reports The New York Times.

The tape was released in 1939. It was played by Vivien Leigh, Clark gable, Olivia De Havilland.

Orpheum held annual screenings of this picture. In 2017, the event was held on August 11, that is, simultaneously with the events in Charlottesville.

After the screening, the theater received complaints, the authors criticised the way in “Gone with the wind” is presented as black and tape “romanticized” old South.

In the end, the Orpheum decided not to show the picture in 2018. This decision not everyone liked the commentators. Some felt that this was insulting to the entire crew Gone with the wind.
