Putin has appointed Anatoly Antonov, Russian Ambassador to the U.S.

Anatoly Antonov was appointed Russia’s Ambassador to the United States. The decree was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, reported on the Kremlin website.

As noted in the message, the President also released Antonova from the post of Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs.

The candidature of Deputy foreign Minister of Russia Anatoly Antonov to the post of Russian Ambassador to USA was approved on may 18. That Antonov is the main contender for the post of Russian Ambassador to the United States, became known in February.

In this post it will replace Sergey Kislyak, who held the position since 2008. He has completed his mission in Washington on 22 July, and 21 August was formally relieved of his duties and removed from office by the permanent observer of Russian Federation to the Organization of American States in Washington.
