The Polish foreign Minister said about the responsibility of the USSR for unleashing the Second world war
The Minister of foreign Affairs of Poland Witold Waszczykowski in an interview with wPolityce stated that the USSR together with Germany is responsible for starting the Second world war. His words were a response to the statement by Ambassador Sergei Andreyev that Poland should maintain the monuments to Soviet soldiers.
“We must remember that the Soviet Union contributed to the outbreak of the Second world war in the highest degree, together with Germany attacking Poland. Therefore, it is also responsible for starting the Second world war”, — said the Minister. He added that the Soviet Union fought with the Germans, “because at that time, for several years he was the victim of German aggression”.
Earlier, the Ambassador of Russia in Poland Sergey Andreev suggested that the monuments to Soviet soldiers are not Communist propaganda, but “only an expression of gratitude to fallen soldiers, thanks to which Poland still exists.”
Prior to this, in an interview with “Kommersant” the head of the Polish foreign Ministry has assured that to destroy the monuments and graves of the local authorities are not going, the demolition will affect only signs of Soviet domination: the red stars, hammer and sickle. He stressed that “the Soviet Union contributed to the outbreak of world war II by signing the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact and attacking Poland in September 1939”.
