The state Department noted the unwillingness of Ukraine to join NATO

Special envoy of the US state Department in Ukraine Kurt Volker believes that Ukraine in its current state is not ready to join NATO. He told about it on air of TV channel “Direct”.

He noted that the Alliance is not ready to accept Ukraine into its composition. Walker recalled that the preparation of a state to membership in NATO requires a large amount of time.

Walker also added that the decision on Ukraine’s accession to the Alliance should be taken in Kiev. “The US, EU, Russia — everyone needs to understand that Ukraine is an independent country, and nobody can say that Ukraine will become a NATO member — it’s completely the decision of Ukraine”, — he said.

In early July, the Chairman of the Parliament Andrei Parubiy made that Ukraine could “suddenly” become a member of NATO. According to him, Kyiv has to do everything possible, to 2020 to lead the security sector to the standards of the organization.

In February, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko confirmed his intention to hold the country’s referendum on joining the North Atlantic Alliance. In December 2015, he has called membership in the European Union and NATO the main goal of Kiev.
