In Latvia complained about Raimond for speaking in Russian

RIGA, August 15 — RIA Novosti. A resident of Latvia Eric Daliba complained to the state language Centre on presentation of the famous composer Raimonds Pauls in Russian on the events on the occasion of the 840th anniversary of the city Ludza.

The state language centre is an institution that penalizes residents of Latvia who do not use Latvian language in the public sphere or not well own it. In Latvia one state language — Latvian. Russian has the status of a foreign, despite the fact that is native for almost 40% of the population.

“Raimonds Pauls held a solemn speech in honor of the anniversary of 840 Ludza in Russian. We’ve come so far?” — Galiba wrote in his Twitter account. A complaint he sent to the state language Centre.

As informs a portal mixnews.lv Pauls spoke at the celebrations dedicated to the anniversary of the city of Ludza in Latvia. There he spoke in two languages — Latvian and Russian. The majority of residents are Russian — speaking.

The state language centre has not commented on the situation. Paul himself also publicly responded to the complaint.

In the case that Pauls found guilty of violating the law on the state language, he faces a fine.
