The German foreign Ministry: trump will consult with the EU on sanctions against Russia

BERLIN, 1 Jul — RIA Novosti. The US President Donald trump has not made a decision about tightening the sanctions regime against Russia, provided for consultation with the Europeans, said the foreign Minister of Germany Sigmar Gabriel.

“There is still time. The President obviously trump has not yet decided whether and how it will tighten the sanctions regime against Russia. The law provides, in any case, prior consultation with us, the Europeans, before that can happen,” said the Minister, whose words are in the message of the German foreign Ministry.

According to Gabriel, he intends to use this opportunity for discussion, “being in close contact with (U.S. Secretary of state — ed.) Rex Tillerson”.

He stressed that the purpose of sanctions against Moscow — “overcoming the crisis in Ukraine and political pressure”. This goal is achievable “when we work together as a team,” added the Minister. However, he promised to repulse the industrial policy of the United States under the guise of sanctions.

Earlier, the Congress approved the law on new anti-Russian sanctions. Now he has to sign Donald trump. In response, Moscow ordered to reduce the staff of the American diplomatic missions in Russia.

The EU reacted negatively to the new sanctions, because one of the provisions of the document implies restrictive measures against Russian energy projects, including in Europe. As stated in the German foreign Ministry, with the help of sanctions Washington is trying to free up space for the delivery of American gas to the EU.
