In the fight for the Governor’s office in Tomsk region are involved four people

In February 2017 the current Governor of Tomsk region Sergey Zhvachkin wrote a statement on early resignation and was appointed acting. As a candidate of “United Russia” he will compete for the post of the head region with three candidates.
Pass the municipal filter has been the representatives of the three parliamentary parties. Regional Deputy Natalia Baryshnikova nominated by the Communist party, engaged in party work. Regional Deputy Alexander Rostovtsev, put forward “Fair Russia” more than 20 years headed the Department of traumatology and orthopedics at the medical center of the city of Seversk. LDPR has put forward a 34-year-old Chairman of the Duma Committee on Federal structure and local self-government Alexei Didenko. Gubernatorial elections will be held in the region for the first time in 14 years.
Oil and innovation
The native from “Gazprom” Sergey Zhvachkin has headed the Tomsk oblast in March 2012, succeeding Governor-the”old-timer” Victor Kress. Since the beginning of 2000s, the authorities adopted a policy of diversifying the economy of Tomsk region, which is heavily dependent on the oil and gas industry. The region is trying to develop as a scientific-educational and innovation center.
In Tomsk there are six major state universities, one in eight residents is a student. The share of “knowledge economy” in the gross regional product has increased over the past five years from 7% to 10%. Two Tomsk University entered the prestigious program “5-100” on increasing the international competitiveness and had the opportunity to develop infrastructure, attract foreign students and teachers.
