The head of Russian foreign Ministry Sergei Lavrov hopes that agreement on the establishment of the fourth zone of de-escalation in the Syrian Idlib will be legislated in the near future at a meeting in Astana format.
“You have already created three zones of de-escalation, now formed the fourth in the area of Idlib. And in the near future will hold a regular meeting in Astana format, where, I hope, the agreement will be finally enshrined in legal documents,” Lavrov told reporters following his visit to Kuwait.
According to him, Kuwait highly appreciates the role played by Russia in the Syrian settlement.
Russia, Iran and Turkey agreed in may on the establishment in Syria of four zones of de-escalation with the aim to extend the ceasefire to other areas in Syria.
To date, Syria has created three zones of de-escalation: to the North of the city of HOMS, in the Damascus suburb — Eastern ghouta, and on the Syrian border with Jordan in Daraa province. In addition, currently work is underway to launch another area of de-escalation in Idlib province.
Armed conflict in Syria continues from March 2011. According to the UN, during this time, killed more than 220 thousand people.
