Chief editor MIA “Russia today” editor-in-chief of RT Margarita Simonyan commented on the statement of the Secretary General of the European Federation of journalists (EFJ) Ricardo Guterres, condemned the refusal of the Estonian presidency of the European Union to provide to the correspondent of “Russia today” accreditation for covering the informal meeting of foreign Ministers of the EU on 7-8 September in Tallinn.
Accreditation asked three reporters who consistently have been denied without explanation. The Agency for the first time faced with such limitations in access to coverage of events at the Ministerial level under the auspices of the European Union.
“Very happy, except for Estonia in the European Union there are a couple dozen States. Many of them, as we see, quite sane. Special thanks to Mr. Gutierres because, at the risk of being branded unfashionable, allowed himself to stand up for freedom European words,” Simonyan told RIA Novosti.
Guterres called denial of accreditation of the MIA “Russia today” a serious attack on freedom of the media.
