State Duma Deputy Vitaly Milonov intends to initiate the study of public opinion on the subject of raising the age of sale of alcohol and tobacco products to 21 years.

At the present time in Russia the sale of alcohol and cigarettes is allowed persons older than 18 years. Earlier in the Duma were repeatedly introduced bills proposing to sell alcohol and tobacco to people under the age of 21. However, these initiatives were not supported.

“I intend to raise the question not only of reducing the time of the sale of alcohol, but also to initiate a public opinion survey on the subject of raising the threshold age sales of alcohol and tobacco products to people under the age of 21 years” , — told RIA Novosti Sunday.

“From the point of view of scientists, science, and alcohol and tobacco are poison to the body. Why are we moving students yesterday to drink beer, tonic water with a bit of sugar cigarette? I think that 90% of Russians support the idea of raising the age of sale — we are required to put steel barriers of the liberal madness of self-destruction of our people” , — he stressed.
