The US President Donald trump has signed a decree on the introduction of financial sanctions against Venezuela. About it reports Reuters.
As follows from the document, henceforth prohibited transaction with new debt and securities issued by the Venezuelan government and state oil company PDVSA. It is also forbidden to conduct transactions with a number of already issued debt of the public sector of Venezuela, as well as dividends, which are paid by the authorities.
It is particularly specified that the sanctions do not affect us units PDVSA — Citgo firms as well as commercial operations associated with manufacturing goods, import and export of crude oil.
As explained in the White house, the purpose of sanctions is to put pressure on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, which Washington considers a dictator.
Saturday, August 19, constituent Assembly of Venezuela approved the decree establishing for him legislative functions and in fact dissolve the country’s Parliament. In this case, the Venezuelan Parliament (national Assembly) called the actions of the constituent Assembly unconstitutional and ordered not to prevent the dissolution of the legislature.
The US state Department also condemned the decision of the Venezuelan constituent Assembly. “This seizure of power is aimed at replacing the democratically elected Parliament to an authoritarian Committee, violate the law,” — said in a statement. The state Department promised to use economic and diplomatic leverage to support the people of Venezuela.
Undermining the constitutional order of Venezuela also condemned the parliaments of Argentina, Brazil, Spain, Canada, Costa Rica, Mexico, Panama, Peru and Chile.
In Venezuela since April of this year, the continuing unrest, victims of clashes have killed more than 100 people. This comes amid the standoff between Maduro and the opposition, which after the election belongs to the majority in Parliament. The cause of the conflict was the deepest economic crisis in the country caused by the fall in world oil prices, which is the main export product of the country.
