Sergei Lavrov and Rex Tillerson
The Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov discussed by telephone with U.S. Secretary of state Rex Tillerson, the situation around North Korea following recent missile launch by Pyongyang. This is stated in the message published on the website of the Russian foreign Ministry.
“The interlocutors exchanged views on the situation on the Korean Peninsula in the context of the formulation of the reaction of the UN security Council for a missile launch by Pyongyang on July 28. Lavrov called on those involved in the opposition sides to show restraint and a speedy resumption of the negotiation process”, — stated in the message.
The commentary notes that the Russian foreign Minister and us Secretary of state also discussed “some other pressing international and regional problems,” and agreed to meet on the sidelines of the ASEAN forum to be held in the Philippines capital Manila from 6 to 8 August.
“The foreign Ministers agreed to discuss in detail prospects of cooperation for their settlement, and also the state of bilateral relations between Russia and the USA”, — noted in comments.
June 13, Tillerson said at a hearing in the Senate that Washington has “a big problem with the Russians… our relations are at a record low and continues to deteriorate. Our goal — to stabilize the dialogue.”
July 29, U.S. Secretary of state said that the restrictive measures against Moscow mean the US desire to see Russia’s steps to improve bilateral relations. In the Federation Council, the statement of the head of the state Department called “Jesuit logic”.
