Council under the President of Russia on development of civil society and human rights (HRC) considers illegal the decision of the Basmanny court on deportation of a correspondent of “Novaya Gazeta”, the citizen of Uzbekistan Hudaberdi Nurmatov. On Thursday, August 3, reports the Russian Agency of legal and judicial information (RAPSI) with reference to the press service of the Advisory body.
“Family members of the journalist are Russian citizens and, consequently, his removal from the country would contradict the requirements of article 38 of the Constitution and article 8 of the European Convention for the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms”, — is spoken in the message.
The Council was also told that he received a letter from the office of “Novaya Gazeta” the head of state Vladimir Putin with the request to help the journalist, who writes under the pseudonym Feruz Ali. “The Council is addressing this issue not the first day and will deal with them to a positive decision”, — said the head of the HRC Mikhail Fedotov.
On 1 August, the Basmanny court of Moscow has recognized Nurmatov guilty of violating the rules of entry or stay in the territory of a foreign state. It was also ordered to pay a fine of five thousand rubles. The next day, the defendant tried to commit suicide.
According to Nurmatov, in Uzbekistan it allegedly tried to recruit intelligence agencies and tortured. He left the country in 2008, asking Russia for temporary asylum, but was refused.
