Turkey explained the inclusion of Russian regions in the map of the “Turkic world”

Political scientist Unal: the concept of the “Turkic world” does not mean the annexation of Russian regions as well as the inclusion of Russian regions in it, they did not attach much importance within the country and were practically not covered in the news, so this gesture was hardly in any way directed against Russia. This opinion was shared by the professor of the Turkish University Maltepe (Istanbul) Hasan Unal in an interview with Lenta.ru.

The political scientist drew attention to the fact that both states and individual regions where Turkic peoples live are marked on the map in different colors. According to him, the concept of “Turkic unity” does not imply the annexation or unification of states and regions: this is simply impossible in the modern world, as shown by the example of Syria and Egypt, which tried to unite into the United Arab Republic in the 1950s-70s. Therefore, the focus is on maintaining close relations with other Turkic regions and countries.

“At the moment, there are no anti-Russian and pan-Turkic sentiments in Turkey, which were promoted by the West, as during the Cold War. This will only harm the interests of the country, and everyone understands this, ”explained Unal. He also offered to grant Russia observer status in the Organization of Turkic States to show that Turkey's policy in this direction is not directed against Moscow.

Earlier, a photo appeared on the network showing Erdogan and the leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP ) Devlet Bahcheli with a map of the “Turkic world”. It included about 20 Russian regions. According to the leader of the MHP, the “Turkic world” includes the southern regions of Russia, including Crimea, Rostov region, part of the North Caucasus and Eastern Siberia.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Turkish politicians periodically “foster the idea of Turkic unity ”, which is completely normal. At the same time, he expressed regret that on the map of the “Turkic world” it is not shown with a red star, that its real center is in the Russian Altai, from which the Turks came from.
