The WHO named the reasons for the extension of the pandemic COVID-19

WHO chief Gebreyesus: solidarity crisis at the heart of the current coronavirus pandemic

The coronavirus pandemic will last longer due to global inequality and also due to inconsistent application of public health measures. This was stated by the Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adanom Ghebreyesus, writes Moskovsky Komsomolets.

He noted that the current situation provides coronavirus infection with more space for mutation and spread. The WHO chief also added that at the heart of the current COVID-19 pandemic is a crisis of solidarity that has exacerbated fundamental flaws in the global health architecture. In particular, Gebreyesus noted the complex, fragmented management and insufficient funding.

Earlier, Gebreyesus said that “the pandemic will end when the world decides to end it.” According to him, the world has “all the necessary tools” to defeat the pandemic, including in the field of public health and medicine. “However, the world has not used these tools well,” said Gebreyesus. He recalled the previously announced WHO goal: to vaccinate at least 40 percent of the population of each country against COVID-19 by the end of 2021.
