Germany prepared for the launch of Nord Stream 2 not earlier than March

Reuters: Problem in Nord Stream 2 certification could delay launch until March

-2 “By the Federal Network Agency of Germany (BNetzA), deliveries along this route can begin no earlier than March. Reuters reports this, citing sources in the German government.

The agency's interlocutor stressed that Gazprom needs to create a subsidiary of the Swiss operator of the Nord Stream 2 AG project, and then transfer property and rights in Germany to it. Only after that, the regulator will be ready to resume the certification process, in order to then submit it to the European Commission.

BNetzA reported problems in certification the day before, on November 16. The press service of Nord Stream 2 AG declined to comment on the details of the permitting procedure and the possibility of structural changes to affect the timing of the gas pipeline launch.

Even before this information, Bloomberg experts did not rule out that the certification of Nord Stream 2 would be extended for a period until May 8. For this, the European Commission, which has enough opponents of the gas pipeline, may request an additional two months to consider the project.

Against this background, gas prices on the European spot markets have again exceeded one thousand dollars per thousand cubic meters. By the morning of Tuesday, November 17, the price of December gas futures on the Dutch TTF index rose above $ 1,150.

At the same time, on the eve of the Greifswald Supreme Administrative Court also dismissed the claim of the non-profit organization for environmental protection Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH) demanding that the construction and operation of the pipeline be prevented as “partly unacceptable” and unreasonable.
