In the US, called reckless Russian tests of anti-satellite weapons

Department of State: Russian anti-satellite tests were reckless and threaten the ISS State Department spokesman Ned Price said that space debris caused by the destruction of the satellite threatens the safety of the International Space Station (ISS), TASS reports.

Russia recklessly conducted a devastating anti-satellite weapon test against one of its satellites. The result was more than 1,500 monitored debris and hundreds of thousands of smaller debris that now threaten the interests of all countries. The test will significantly increase the danger to astronauts and cosmonauts on the ISS, as well as other space activity

Price stressed that Russia's behavior threatens the long-term sustainability of outer space. The State Department spokesman also accused Moscow of insincerity in relation to statements about opposing the placement of weapons in space. He stated that the United States, together with partners and allies, would prepare a response to these actions.

Russia did not notify the United States

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said the agency is concerned about the tests conducted by Russia. He also added that Moscow did not inform Washington about them. The representative expressed the hope that the world space powers will respect international rules for the use of outer space.

We are closely monitoring the various means that Russia, apparently, intends to develop and which may threaten not only the interests of our national security, but also the security interests of other space powers

Earlier, the Mission Control Center reported that the ISS could come close to space debris. The instruction assumes that the crew is on the spacecraft during the approach of the station with a potentially dangerous object.

During the negotiations of the crew of the station with the Earth, it was noted that space debris flew past the ISS, cosmonauts and astronauts were able to return to their places, however, it was noted that that in an hour and a half the debris will again be able to disturb the station.

British reaction

British Defense Minister Ben Wallace also said that Russia neglected the safety of outer space, having tested anti-satellite weapons, thereby creating a threat to satellites and spacecraft. His statement was posted on the Defense Ministry's Twitter.

The devastating test of an anti-satellite missile by Russia demonstrates a complete disregard for safety and long-term sustainability in outer space. The debris from the test will remain in orbit, threatening satellites and manned spacecraft for many years to come

Astronauts aboard the ISS will keep their inner hatches closed on Tuesday 16 November due to the risks posed by space debris. Such recommendations were given by the US Space Flight Control Center, writes TASS.

According to them, the hatches between the main modules should be left closed until such time as work is underway to track the debris caused by the destruction of the satellite.

Earlier it became known that the head of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin on Tuesday will discuss with representatives of NASA the problem of space debris. The meeting will take place on November 16 at 11:00 Moscow time. It is noted that the negotiations were planned to be held earlier.

Due to the space debris incident, the range of topics for discussion will expand. The American side at the meeting will be represented by Joel Montalbano, NASA Program Manager on the ISS, and NASA Assistant Director Robert Cabana.
