The EC spoke about the supply of steel to the United States after the removal of duties

Vice President of the EC Dombrovskis: after the abolition of duties, the EU will double the supply of steel to the US

Vice President of the European Commission (EC) Valdis Domb said that the European Union now, after the decision to abolish the duty, has the opportunity to approximately double the supply of steel products to the United States. RIA Novosti reports.

“This will allow US steel exports to recover at least to levels that were recorded before [former US President Donald] Trump introduced tariffs under 'Section 232' “, – said Dombrovskis.

According to him, currently export volumes are two times lower than historical levels. “Consequently, we have significant potential for exports to recover,” he said.

During the confrontation, Washington and Brussels, with the permission of the World Trade Organization, introduced mutual duties on imports of products. So, in October 2020, duties on American goods in the amount of almost four billion dollars were allowed to be applied by the European Union, and in 2019, Washington received a similar permit. Then it was about the amount of 7.5 billion dollars a year.

In May, it became known about the plans of the US and the EU to make peace in the trade conflict that began during the presidency of Donald Trump. They talked about the possibility of abolishing mutual duties on the import of various products, in particular steel and aluminum.
