New finds near Kaliningrad deepened knowledge of ancient culture

Archaeologists believe that the Kaliningrad region will become the most important site for excavations

According to the head of the Sambi expedition of the IA RAS, Konstantin Skvortsov, archaeological work took place on the territory, where the Primorskoye Koltso autobahn is being built. He added that a large number of unusual burial complexes with valuable household items dating back to the 3rd-7th centuries AD were found there.

As a result, it turned out that earlier in the region there were widespread burials of riders with horses. The scientist explained that in such graves, human remains were found along with the bones of one or even several animals, and these were “elite burials.” turned out to be a completely preserved collection of Roman glass tokens. The archaeologist suggested that these are elements of the board game “ludus latrunculorum.”

In conclusion, the Russian historian Anna Mastykova said that the Kaliningrad region could become one of the most important archaeological sites in the country. According to her, Russian and foreign scientists are already preparing for new trips.
