In the Vladimir region has opened a hotline to combat ASF

VLADIMIR, on August 11. /TASS/. Hotline to combat the spread of African swine fever (ASF) started in the Vladimir region. The Governor of the region Svetlana Orlova instructed to open the line after a disease struck the animals in the half of the region, reported the press service of the regional administration.

“In order to enhance the effectiveness of the fight against African swine fever by order of the Governor Svetlana Orlova hot line is open. We will remind, earlier the head of the region gave instructions to all relevant services together with the local authorities to take tighter control of the situation to take all necessary measures to prevent the threat of the spread of the disease and its occurrence in the future” — said the press service.

Besides, on the website of the Department of agriculture and food of the region posted an interactive map with information about the situation with ASF.

Since the beginning of July in the region was 13 outbreaks of African swine fever, quarantine in connection with the spread of the disease is declared in eight of 16 districts of the region. Among the infected animals there like wild boar and domestic pigs. According to the authorities, because of the ASF over the past five years the number of wild boars in the region has decreased by 87%.

Earlier, the Governor of Vladimir region instructed to develop a regional programme to combat African swine fever. Those involved in pig production, it is recommended to develop the poultry industry, have sheep and goats.

ASF is infiltrated into Russia from Georgia in 2007. Her outbursts are detected periodically in various regions of Russia and also in Belarus and Ukraine. ASF is not dangerous to humans, but deadly to wild and domestic pigs. Infected livestock is destroyed to prevent further spread of the disease.
