The Georgian authorities appealed to Poland with a request for finding Saakashvili
WARSAW, Aug 7 — RIA Novosti. Georgia appealed to Poland to inquire about the whereabouts of the ex-President, Mikheil Saakashvili, has declared a press-the Secretary of the district Prosecutor’s office in Warsaw Lukasz Lapinski.
“On Monday, the Prosecutor’s office received the request of the Ministry of justice of Georgia, is whether Mikheil Saakashvili in Poland” — quoted Lipinskogo Agency PAP.
He noted that the Prosecutor’s office will clarify this issue with the Border guard and the police.
Earlier the Deputy of the ruling party of Poland “law and justice” Malgorzata Gosiewska reported that Saakashvili is on a visit to Poland, where he took part in the celebrations on the occasion of the anniversary of the Warsaw uprising. Saakashvili himself said that he came to Warsaw from the USA immediately after it learned of the decision of the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to deprive him of citizenship, and intends to visit other European countries.
Migration service of Ukraine on July 26 reported that Poroshenko has deprived Saakashvili Ukrainian citizenship. As stated in the President’s administration, Saakashvili is deprived of citizenship due to the fact that he has provided false data when it is received. Saakashvili himself said that he was in the United States.
In November 2013, Saakashvili left Georgia after the inauguration of the new President. The chief Prosecutor’s office of Georgia in absentia brought Saakashvili charges in several criminal cases. In 2015, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has granted Ukrainian Saakashvili citizenship, and signed a decree on his appointment as head of the Odessa regional state administration. In November 2016, Saakashvili resigned from the post of Governor of the Odessa region, saying the unwillingness of the Ukrainian authorities to fight corruption.
