The highest-paid writer in the world was a woman
Forbes magazine has compiled a list of the highest paid writers in 2017. The rating, which will be fully published in the September issue, available on the newspaper’s website.
Topped the list of British writer JK Rowling, author of Harry Potter. She earned $ 95 million in the last 12 months. Rowling has returned to the first position for the first time since 2008.
In the ranking there is another woman — Briton Paul Hawkins, who gained fame thanks to the novel “the Girl on the train”, which was filmed.
At the same time disappeared from the list the names of the American science fiction writer George R. R. Martin, whose series of books “a Song of ice and fire” formed the basis of the series “Game of thrones” and also of John Greene, the author of “the Fault in our stars”, “looking for Alaska” and “Paper towns”.
As noted by the authors of the rating, the works of five of the top 11 writers have been filmed, but the bulk of the earnings they brought selling just books. Together, these 11 authors have sold more than 30 million copies in the United States for the year, which brought them to 312 million dollars.
