Moscow. July 29. INTERFAX.RU — Minister of natural resources of Russia Sergey Donskoy called system utilities the main source of pollution of lake Baikal.
“Today, after the closure of the BPPM (the Baikal pulp and paper mill — if), the main factor to lake pollution — solid waste, formed in the housing and communal services”, — he said at the interdepartmental Commission on lake Baikal in Ulan-Ude on Saturday.
His words are quoted by the press service of government Buryatia.
According to the Ministry of environment, in the absence of industrial anthropogenic impact on the lake remain the objects of accumulated environmental damage, including the industrial site of the Baikal pulp and paper mill.
Donskoy said that the implementation of the Federal target program “Protection of lake Baikal” will be discussed during the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin in Buryatia.
“The theme of the FTP “Baikal” will be the key, and the shortcomings that we are now acknowledging, are raised to the level of the President. I am sure, will be the conclusions, and the results speak for themselves. The money is there, the resources are there, but somehow everything is in place,” said the Minister.
According to him, implementation of the program for the protection of the lake against the backdrop of poor interagency cooperation, due to legal flaws many of the objects included in the program cannot be funded that does not begin to work for you. “Among these objects and treatment facilities on the right Bank of the city of Ulan-Ude”, — stated in the message.
On Saturday in Ulan-Ude held a meeting of the interdepartmental Commission on protection of lake Baikal under the chairmanship of the Minister of natural resources and ecology of Russia. The Commission considers issues relating to environmental safety on the Baikal natural territory (BPT) and lake Baikal.
