Anatoly Antonopoulou: the Kremlin has commented on the results of Washington’s approval of Antonov
Washington gave the agrément for the appointment of Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Anatoly Antonov, Russian Ambassador to the United States. On Friday, July 28, the newspaper “Izvestia”.
“The agrement is obtained. It remains to solve the questions connected with diplomatic visa”, — told the newspaper source in the Ministry of foreign Affairs.
According to “Izvestia”, Washington agreed to issue the approval after the meeting, Deputy foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov and us assistant Secretary of state Thomas Shannon.
The candidature of Deputy foreign Minister of Russia Anatoly Antonov to the post of Russian Ambassador to USA was approved on may 18. That Antonov is the main contender for the post of Russian Ambassador to the United States, became known in February.
In this post it will replace Sergey Kislyak, who held the position since 2008. He has completed his mission in Washington on July 22. Currently, the functions of chargé d’affaires of the Russian Federation in the USA performs the Counsellor Denis Gonchar.
