The Lebanese army will conduct operations on the border with Syria

The Lebanese army will soon conduct a major military operation on the border with Syria. This is with reference to the statement of the Prime Minister of Lebanon Saad Hariri, according to Reuters.

According to Hariri, the operation will take place in the city Arsaliyev. In the mountains around it are militant bases, which are involved in the war in Syria, including the “Islamic state” (IG) and “al-Nusra Front” (banned in Russia). The Prime Minister said that the army has complete freedom of action, and said that the Lebanese military did not coordinate with the Syrian colleagues.

At the moment, according to Lebanese authorities, near Arsaliyev focused about three thousand fighters, two-thirds of whom belong to groups, and IG “Front EN-Nusra”.

In 2012, a group of militants of the Free Syrian Army attacked a border post near the Arsaliyev. The attack was repulsed, the rebels pushed back into the mountains. 2 Feb 2013 the Lebanese army was ambushed in the suburbs, two officers were killed. In August 2014, troops invaded Lebanon to Syria, to knock them managed just five days.
