Moscow is ready to cooperate with the Council of Europe, although he has suspended payment of contributions to the budget of the organization. This was stated by RIA Novosti, the Chairman of the Duma Committee on international Affairs Leonid Slutsky Thursday, July 13.
The parliamentarian is sure that the Russian side will continue to perform his duties as a member of the organization.
“The Council of Europe, despite the situation in the parliamentary Assembly of the COE, remains an important area of our cooperation in the framework of international organizations, it is the most inclusive platform on the European continent,” — said Slutsky.
He drew attention to the fact that the lower house of Parliament this week approved the ratification of two Council of Europe conventions relating to the suppression of the financing of terrorism and security at sport events.
On 3 July the head of the international Committee of the state Duma in conversation with “ru” said that Moscow will resume payment of contributions to the COE in case of regulations of PACE will be removed norm, allowing to deprive of the national delegation of authority.
On 30 June the Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov has informed Council of Europe Secretary General thorbjørn Jagland to freeze the contribution for 2017 to restore the credentials of the Russian delegation in PACE. She was denied the right to vote and excluded from all governing bodies in April 2014 after the annexation of Crimea to Russia.
