Former Peruvian President Ollanta Humala and his wife Nadine Heredia taken into custody for up to 18 months at the time of the investigation into money laundering. About it reports Reuters.

The warrant of arrest issued by judge Richard Concepcion on Thursday, July 13, having satisfied the petition of Prosecutor Herman Juarez. This measure was chosen to prevent the possible escape of the suspects or their interference in the investigation.

The Prosecutor’s office accuses Umalu and Heredia illegally obtaining funds from the now deceased Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and Brazilian construction companies Odebrecht SA and OAS SA.

Humala and Heredia deny the charges. According to the lawyers, they’re not going to run anywhere.

Ollanta Humala was the Peruvian President from 2011 to 2016.
