Abe and Putin agreed that a Charter flight to the Kuril Islands will take place in September

TOKYO, 7 Feb — RIA Novosti, Xenia Naka. The leaders of Russia and Japan at a meeting in Hamburg agreed that the first Charter flight of Japanese former residents of the southern Kuril Islands will take place in September, reports the Agency Kyodo.

The question about the beginning of flights between Northern Japan and southern Kuril Islands was discussed during the meeting, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Russian President Vladimir Putin in late April. Still, there was only sea route to visit the former Japanese residents of the South Kuril Islands. To expand exchanges and facilitate visits to the graves of former residents of the Islands was proposed by air.

The trip was scheduled for June 18. During the one-day visit was planned to visit Kunashiri and Etorofu, it had to be postponed due to inclement weather. New dates for first flight before the visit of leaders still had not called.
