Iraq declared the liberation of Mosul from ISIS

The Prime Minister of Iraq Haider al-Abadi, declared the liberation of Mosul from the terrorists of the “Islamic State” (IG, is prohibited in Russia). On Sunday, July 9, reported on the policy page on Twitter.

Al-Abadi arrived in the city and thanked the “heroic soldiers and the Iraqi people for the great victory.”

June 29, local TV, citing the military command stated that the ISIS militants out of Mosul.

Ground military operation to liberate Mosul began on 17 October 2016. It was attended by units of the regular Iraqi army, the Kurdish militia and formation of volunteers. The international coalition led by the US provided air and artillery support.

The second phase of the operation to liberate the Western part of the city was conducted from Feb. In late March, Iraqi security forces stopped a massive attack due to the increased number of casualties, however, on April 14, the battle for the center of the city resumed.
