The United States Congress has made the initiative to introduce sanctions against Russia for breach of INF Treaty

WASHINGTON, July 8. /TASS/. The Chairman of the Committee on foreign Affairs U.S. house of representatives ed Royce has introduced in Congress an amendment to the Law on national security for 2018, which implies the introduction of new sanctions against Russia for attributed to her breach of Contract on the elimination of intermediate and shorter-range missiles (INF Treaty).

This is stated in a statement on Friday the statement of the legislator.

From his point of view, the Russian leadership first year “ignored its obligations under the INF Treaty”. “The recent posting prohibited [agreement] missiles with nuclear warheads is a serious threat to the national security interests of the United States. And this is just one example of how the Russian aggression threatens international stability,” he says.

“The Russians have not been held accountable for the placement and testing of these missiles, and the United States cannot continue to act in the same manner, while [Russian President Vladimir] Putin sends them (rockets — ed. TASS) in the field. This amendment involves the introduction of sanctions against Russia for its violation of the INF Treaty, limiting Russia’s ability to produce modern conventional weapons and directed against state sponsors of terrorism who buy them,” said the Congressman.

As stated previously the first Deputy assistant Secretary of defense for nuclear and missile deterrence Robert Soufer, the United States hopes that Russia will return to compliance with the INF Treaty, but was ready to engage Russia accountable for its failure.

In July 2014 the United States first accused Russia of violating the INF Treaty. Then Washington has repeatedly said the withdrawal, which Moscow has expressed disagreement. Russia puts U.S. counter-claims related to the implementation of the INF Treaty.

Furthermore, Moscow has in the past repeatedly stressed that he had not heard from Washington no specifics relating to the accusations relating to compliance of the bilateral INF Treaty of 1987. In accordance with this Treaty, the parties pledged not to produce, not to test and not to deploy ballistic and cruise missiles, ground-based medium (from 1 thousand to 5.5 thousand km) and small (from 500 to 1 thousand kilometers) range.
