TOKYO, 7 Feb — RIA Novosti, Xenia Naka. The Central theme at a meeting of leaders of Russia and Japan in Hamburg was the question of a peace Treaty, reports the Agency Kyodo, citing Deputy Secretary General of the government of Japan Kotaro’s Feet.
According to him, the meeting was face to face with only interpreters.
“It was a tight debate,” said foot on, explaining that the conversation in this format was continued for 15 minutes.
The discussion which was the issue of concluding a peace Treaty, said the representative of the government of Japan.
In Japan the concept of “peace Treaty” includes the solution of the question of belonging of the four Islands of the South Kuril Islands of Kunashir, Shikotan, Iturup and Habomai. Japan connects the signing of the peace Treaty with the solution of territorial disputes — Japan claims the Islands of Etorofu, Kunashiri, Shikotan and Habomai, referring to bilateral Treatise on trade and borders of 1855. The return of the Islands Tokyo made it a condition of signing a peace Treaty with Russia, which after the Second world war and was not signed.
The position of Moscow consists that southern Kuriles became part of the Soviet Union at the end of the Second world war and the Russian sovereignty over them with appropriate international legal design, not subject to doubt.
