In the U.S. Congress decided to punish Russia for breach of INF Treaty

The Chairman of the Committee on foreign Affairs U.S. house of representatives ed Royce has introduced in Congress an amendment to the law on national security for 2018. It involves the introduction of new sanctions against Russia for breach of Contract on the elimination of intermediate and shorter-range missiles (INF Treaty), according to a published statement Royce.

“For many years [Russian President] Vladimir Putin openly ignores obligations under the INF Treaty. The recent deployment of prohibited missiles with nuclear warheads pose a serious threat to the national security interests of the United States” — said the legislator.

In his opinion, “this is another example of Russian aggression, which undermines global stability”. Royce added that Moscow “has not been held accountable for the development and testing of these missiles” and the United States can’t continue to operate as before, while Putin is sending rockets in the field.

“This amendment will impose sanctions on Russia for breach of INF Treaty will limit its ability to produce advanced conventional weapons will affect the state sponsors of terrorism who buy them,” — says the head of the Committee.

What sanctions are prompted to enter is not specified.

In June, the Russian foreign Ministry said that the issue of execution by Russia of the INF Treaty provisions used in the United States as another reason for the use of the new restrictions. “One gets the impression that Washington is a contest for the invention of reasons for anti-Russian sanctions. The theme of the INF Treaty here, unfortunately, is no exception,” — said RIA Novosti Deputy head of the Department of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation on non-proliferation and arms control Vladimir Leontiev.

The INF Treaty does not allow parties to have ballistic missiles, land-based and cruise missiles with a range of from 500 to 5.5 thousand kilometers. The document was signed in 1987. Russia and the United States regularly accuse each other of violating its terms.
