The former Prime Minister of Israel ahead of schedule left on freedom

Convicted of corruption, former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Sunday, July 2, left the prison “Maasiyahu” ahead of schedule left on freedom. It is reported by the newspaper Haaretz.

Olmert, who headed the Cabinet of Ministers of Israel from 2006 to 2009, was found guilty in the corruption case in the construction of the complex “Holland”. The investigation established that officials of the municipality of Jerusalem, headed by Olmert, received in bribes from the company-developer of several million shekels for the promotion of the project and the introduction of numerous changes.

Initially, the politician was sentenced to six years imprisonment. The court also ordered the former Prime Minister to pay a fine in the amount of one million shekels (more than 265 thousand dollars). Later, Israel’s Supreme court has partially satisfied the appeal of protection and reduced the sentence to 18 months. One more month of imprisonment was added by the court under article for impeding the investigation.

To serve a sentence the former politician began February 15, 2016.
