In any society there are topics on which the discussion is held in alignment with the accepted morality. Although feel this subtle divide in our cynical age, sometimes not so easy, following norms and rules, basically, is what is called by default. Death, pain, grief – amuse oneself about such things for many is unacceptable on personal beliefs, on religious grounds.
The exception, of course, come and sample the infamous pseudoscience edition of Charlie Hebdo – that is the most convincing proof. However, compassion – if not always sincere, even a duty, is what distinguishes man from animal.
For the Ukrainian society today, it seems, erased all the faces. And the reaction to the death of the permanent representative of Russia to the UN Vitaly Churkin is again shown. Social networks – a flurry of mocking comments, in the words and actions of the official representatives of the country – an outright malevolence, not even covered by diplomatic politesse.
And I still have it in the human perception of reality in the country of the victorious “revolution of dignity”? Those who are today watching the behavior of so-called “Ukrainian society”, this question arises often and from an anthropological point of view…
A tough opponent, a brilliant diplomat
Surprisingly, those who seemingly had to treat Vitaly Churkin, not the most felicitous manner, expressed the first words of his sympathy. Former U.S. representative to the United Nations Samantha Power – the one where our Ambassador was forced to constantly engage in the conflict that reached almost to melee fights, spoke of the death of his former colleague with the pain.
“Devastated in connection with the death of the permanent representative of Russia to the UN Vitaly Churkin. Maestro of diplomacy and an extremely caring person who did everything possible to overcome the differences between the US and Russia”, – she wrote in Twitter. My sincere condolences expressed in connection with the incident, the British permanent representative to the UN Matthew Rycroft. “Absolutely devastated by the news of the death of my friend and colleague Vitaly Churkin. Diplomatic giant and a wonderful man. Rest in peace”, – he wrote on his page in social networks.
With words of compassion responded to former UN Secretary-General ban Ki-moon, who noted in his review of Vitaly Churkin, that “for ten years as General Secretary, I was honored to work with him and seeing how passionate and dedicated he represents the Russian Federation”. The loss for Russia and for the United Nations called the death of the Russian diplomat the President of the General Assembly of the United Nations Peter Thomson, Vitaly Churkin described as “the cleverest specialist in international relations.” “An outstanding diplomat” called the Russian Ambassador and the current UN Secretary-General antónio Guterres.
Sincere in his words of sympathy were the head of the EU delegation in Russia Vygaudas Usackas, who, recognizing the discrepancy in views, however, admitted Vitaliy Ivanovich “master of diplomacy of the highest class”. A brilliant diplomat called the Russian Ambassador to the EU high representative for foreign Affairs and security policy Federica Mogherini. A strong opponent and at the same time, the other called Vitaly Churkin former adviser to Barack Obama’s national security Susan rice, have expressed their most sincere condolences to the wife of a diplomat Irina, his family and the entire Russian mission to the UN.
Recall – all those with whom Vitaly Churkin, Russia’s representative to the UN for many years of work in the Organization desperately arguing who was forced to publicly put in their place by proving them wrong, and presenting irrefutable proof of the correctness of their own who won in a sharp verbal battles. The abyss of cynicism
Ukrainian politicians have been predictably stingy with compassion. So, the permanent representative of Ukraine to the United Nations Volodymyr Yelchenko was not even the basic words of condolences on the sudden passing of his Russian colleagues.
“I would not exaggerate his personal role” – cynically responded with a Ukrainian diplomat on the news about what happened. And one of the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada, the leader of Radical party Oleg Lyashko and even published on his page in social networks a cynical comment on the death of Vitaly Churkin, offering to “burn in hell all who are against Ukraine”.
But beyond the words, was out of business. In particular, Ukraine has blocked the adoption of a presidential statement of the Security Council UN Vitaly Churkin. The fact that this country currently holds the presidency of the security Council (right to the leadership of this body is given by one of the participating countries on a temporary basis). As said the official representative of the Ministry of internal Affairs in Donetsk region, the decision was allegedly made due to the fact that earlier precedents for the adoption of a separate political statement on such occasions was not.

Meanwhile, according to the accepted in diplomacy rules, the difference between the official statement of the head of the UN security Council and oral statement to the press is that the first goes to the archive, and the second is not stored anywhere. As explained by a member of the Executive Committee of Russian Association of international law Anatoly Kapustin, locking Kiev statements by Vitaly Churkin, is thus an attempt to belittle the merits of a Russian diplomat.
To quote the comment that broke the Ukrainian users of social networks to the news of the passing of Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, is simply impossible. They beyond good and evil.
