Archimandrite Kirill

The Confessor of Patriarch Alexy II Archimandrite Kirill (Pavlov), who died in his 98th year of life. About it reports “Interfax”.

It is noted that he was one of the most respected elders in the Russian Orthodox Church. In different years he held the patriarchs Alexis I and Pimen.

Archimandrite Kirill (in the world Ivan Pavlov) was born on 8 September 1919 in the village of Vyselki Makovsky. After graduating from College he worked at a metallurgical plant. As a Lieutenant took part in the great Patriotic war, fought at Sebastopol, near lake Balaton in Hungary, ended the war in Austria.

In 1954 he was tonsured a monk at the Trinity-Sergius Lavra. First was the Sexton, then Treasurer, and since 1965 became the spiritual father of the monastic brethren. Later he was elevated to the rank of Archimandrite. At the beginning of 2000-ies he suffered a stroke, however, was almost completely immobilized.
